"Digital Journalist" in trouble
I received an email from the makers of The Digital Journalist yesterday, and today, PDNPulse is blogging about it: “The Digital Journalist may suspend publication after a decision by Canon to withdrawn sponsorship of the 12-year-old monthly online magazine.”
My immediate reaction when I heard about this was to be shocked. And I’ll admit that I was shocked that the site depended so strongly on a single company for funding. I don’t want this to be seen as a criticism - it simply points to how hard it still is for even the best independent photo websites to find funding to run their operations.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: If we want this new landscapes of blogs and independent websites to stay people will have to accept the fact that someone will have to pay for them. There is no such thing as free.
So you think you want to be a photographer? Watch. (thanks René!)
